Navarrsotillo Rioja Gran Reserva
Navarrsotillo Rioja Gran Reserva presents a sensational all round package. A beautiful ruby red colour. There is a delicate nose of fruit, laced with liquorice and gentle aromas of toasted oak. It has a powerful palate with a precise and generous structure. It is as grand as its full name suggests: Rioja Tinto Gran Reserva “Magister Bibendi”.
The wine is a blend of Tempranillo with Garnacha and Graciano grapes. Each grape variety develops separately with a maceration of at least 25 days. After this the fermentation of the wine takes 24 months in oak barrels. It is then bottled and kept in the cellar for at least 3 years before its release onto the market.
Navarrsotillo is a quality wine producer that began in 1995 when they started converting the family vineyards, fields and orchards to organic farming standards. They released their first wine two years later. Since then the grower has focused all efforts on organic, quality wines and a commitment to caring for the earth.
The vineyards are divided between several municipalities, Calahorra, Andosilla and San Adrian. This is an area called the “Rioja Mediterranean” with cold winters, mild and rainy springs and autumns, and hot dry summers. The grounds have different textures with limestone, sand, clay and gravel. This all gives the right combination of climate and “terroir” featuring the location that favours elegant wines with soft tannins.
Best served after decanting.
No animal products are used in making this wine: this is the case with all wines on our website. This is not the case with so many wines that are commonly on sale in the UK. Far too many wines have animal products used as a so-called production aid; they will often have a large array of chemical additives as well. Have a look at our page on additives allowed in wines. Many vegan wines are also organic or better still bio-dynamically grown. The care taken in growing the grapes and making the wine comes through in the taste of the final product. This is a vegan wine.
