Sedlescombe Corymbus Red

Sedlescombe Corymbus Red is deep purple, almost black with a violet edge. There is a young nose of green pepper and roasted coffee; fresh black fruit flavours reminiscent of blackberry, blackcurrant, blueberries and even black olives. The wine is medium to full-bodied, exquisitely balanced with a trace of smokey oak character and a dash of velvet tannin.

The grower says, “this Rondo, Regent and Dornfelder blend is certainly the top of our reds! We have made some exceptional ones over the years, including the first English red to win an International award.” This 2014 vintage is a hot climate style of red delivered in our cool northerly climate.

Matches: a great red to go with luxuriant weightier dishes and even dark chocolate.

Grower: Sedlescombe

Established in 1979, Sedlescombe is England’s oldest organic vineyard. In 2010 this family run winery launched the first bio-dynamic English wine. Nowadays these natural methods also include use of wild, natural yeasts for more unique and complex wines that reflect the singular terroir. The complexity of the wines and the care for the environment has won Sedlescombe a number of awards along the way.

The Sedlescombe vineyards are certified organic and biodynamic. Their bio-dynamic and organic standards are to ensure that there is no use of artificial pesticides and fertilisers. They prohibit genetically modified ingredients and help to promote wildlife conservation.

No animal products are used in making this wine: this is the case with all wines on our website. This is not the case with so many wines that are commonly on sale in the UK. Far too many wines have animal products used as a so-called production aid; they will often have a large array of chemical additives as well. Have a look at our page on additives allowed in wines. Many vegan wines are also organic or better still bio-dynamically grown. The care taken in growing the grapes and making the wine comes through in the taste of the final product. This is a vegan wine.
