Montchovet Red or to give it its full name Montchovet Hautes Cotes de Beaune Rouge. It is a classic and fragrant lighter bodied red Burgundy. There are notes of ripe summer fruits; it is a wine with depth and backbone. As with so many Burgundy reds it is very clean, complex and has a delicate nose. It has a fine and diverse bouquet of aromas with red fruits and leafy undergrowth.
This red wine is made from organically grown Pinot Noir grapes – the great red variety of Burgundy. The 4.5 hectares of vines were planted between 1950 and 1990 are about 4 kms from Pommard. The slopes are mainly west-facing and the soil clay limestone from the Jurassic period. The grapes are harvested manually and the wine subject to a long fermentation, with up to 25 days in wooden vats. It is then aged in oak barrels for 12 months: with only 10% of the barrels being new oak. The grower notes that the sulphur added is very moderate.

No animal products are used in making this wine: this is the case with all wines on our website. This is not the case with so many wines that are commonly on sale in the UK. Far too many wines have animal products used as a so-called production aid; they will often have a large array of chemical additives as well. Have a look at our page on additives allowed in wines. Many vegan wines are also organic or better still bio-dynamically grown. The care taken in growing the grapes and making the wine comes through in the taste of the final product. This is a vegan wine.
