Cascina del Melo Barbera DOC.
Cascina del Melo Barbera is a stunner, full of dark chocolate and berry fruit. It has rounded tannins with arresting depth and complexity. An intense ruby red with purplish shadings, there are spicey and undergrowth aromas. On the palate it is warm, full bodied, tannic, yet soft and silky with notes of raspberry and blackberry.
The La Raia vineyard, Cascina del Melo is certified as a bio-dynamic winery by Demeter. Set in the gentle hills of Piedmont’s Gavi wine district it is producing some truly astonishing wines. In 2003 Giorgio Rossi Cairo bought this stunning 110 hectare estate. The estate is now run by Caterina Rossi Cairo and her English husband Tom Dean who live on the estate with their young children.

As with all wines on this website, this wine has been made without animal products. This is not the case with so many wines that are commonly on sale in the UK. Far too many wines have animal products used as a so-called production aid; they will often have a large array of chemical additives as well. Have a look at our page on additives allowed in wines. Many vegan wines are also organic or better still bio-dynamically grown. The care taken in growing the grapes and making the wine comes through in the taste of the final product. This is a vegan wine.
