Description
Capofeto Nero d’Avola
Capofeto Nero d’Avola is deep ruby red in colour. The wine has delicious aromas and tastes of red fruits with a touch of spice.
The wine is produced by Cantine Europa which was established in 1962 by a group of 31 farmers. There are now over 1,000 members covering some 1,600 hectares of vineyards. The company was set up initially to allow farmers from the surrounding area combine their strengths and to utilise one production site. This was to allow for the best technical equipment and so to produce wine of exceptional quality.
What makes this wine so special and unique is the location of the vineyards. They overlook the Southern Mediterranean sea and the mystical Egadi islands. The local micro climate, which can lead to dramatic temperature changes overnight, makes it possible to balance the maturity of the grape, while the salinity is transmitted by the proximity of the sea. During the long hot summer days the grapes mature and help to give the wine a unique and unmistakable flavour and aroma.
No chemicals or pesticides are used when growing the organic Nero d’Avola grapes. After picking the grapes they are then macerated. This is done in cold stainless steel tanks for 12 hours at 16-18 degrees centigrade to get the very best from the delicious juicy flavoursome grapes.

As with all wines on this website, this wine is made without animal products. This is not the case with so many wines that are commonly on sale in the UK. Far too many wines have animal products used as a so-called production aid; they will often have a large array of chemical additives as well. Have a look at our page on additives allowed in wines. Many vegan wines are also organic or better still bio-dynamically grown. The care taken in growing the grapes and making the wine comes through in the taste of the final product. This is a vegan wine.
